Pointing Board for Checkups/Visits after Birth
Mother's Tree Japan is a non-profit organization that actively offers various services to support foreign women living in Japan from pregnancy through delivery to child-rearing.
Mother's Tree Japan offers a foreign woman who is giving/has given birth in Japan a Pointing Board for Checkups/Visits after Birth to help communication on the occasions of regular after-birth checkups by a public health nurse, a midwife, or a doctor. In Japan, all the families with a baby receive a visit by a public health nurse or a midwife. Also, all the one-month-olds are supposed to have a checkup at a hospital. On this pointing board are written phrases a mother might want to say such as "My body hurts," "I am very tired," "I feel anxious about raising my baby," both in Japanese and a foreign language, so that the mother can express her feelings such as anxiety and concern just by pointing one of the phrases on the board. Available languages are English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Thai, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Burmese (Myanmarese), Bengali, Nepalese and Arabic. By clicking on the flag of each language on the linked Japanese page, the language will be displayed.
